Making a Monster Truck Cake!

To be honest, the motivation to make this monster truck cake for my Dad’s recent birthday was all about the sugar paste tyres!  I’d seen a tutorial on the amazing Jessica Harris Cake Design website (http://jessicaharriscakedesign.com) and I couldn’t wait to give them a go!

The pictures below show my stages in creating the cake.  The truck is all made from Rice Krispies Squares covered in sugar paste. The cake itself is nothing more than an 8 inch round chocolate cake. The truck is supported and attached to the cake using 4 hollow plastic cake pillars inserted into the cake and covered in black sugar paste.

The Rice Krispies Squares are stuck together using royal icing and the sugar paste is stuck on using edible glue. I used piping gel to add shine to the windows.  You can make your own Rice Krispies Squares – see www.ricekrispies.com for the ‘Rice Krispies Treats’ recipe. This would probably work out much cheaper!

If I’d thought about it further in advance, I would have ordered some printed wafer paper decoration for the design on the truck to give it some fancy paintwork! The flames were very fiddly to cut out but I was quite pleased with the finished result.

Any questions, please comment below!  I’d also love to see any of your truck or tyre cake photos! ♥ ♥ ♥
